Winter’s Captive

Bronwyn

After waking to a morning tumble, the gods agree that we must find Rays, and we decide to split up.

I look around the cottage for my clothes. When I ask Whirlwind about them, he presents me with a wool overdress in the same color and style as the pale green one I arrived in, but the wool is heavier. The top buttons are missing. As I inspect it, he pulls a white underdress over my head. It’s soft to the touch, the fabric a gentle caress on my skin. Despite the luxurious cotton, it’s thin and nearly transparent, like my torn one. The god’s appreciative gaze over my body sends a shiver through me.

After helping me with my overdress, he presents me with a fleece-lined wool cloak in a deep indigo. “This will repel water,” he says, tossing a censorious look at Blizzard. “I’m not sure how you made it all the way up here in the one you were wearing that day … or rather, night.”

“Witch,” Blizzard says in a casual tone from where he leans against the table.

Ignoring him, Whirlwind presents me with soft, thick stockings to replace my scratchy torn ones, and a pair of boots lined with fur. “This will keep you warm out there.”

Were I not on a mission to find a missing god, I’d sink to my knees, free his cock from his pants, and lick and suck him with all the gratitude and adoration in my heart. When we return, I will worship both their bodies and lavish them with mine like it’s my sole purpose for existing. For now, we need to find Rays.

We split up to search for the missing god. Whirlwind heads east up the mountain. The gods gave me strict instructions to follow the ledge and return the same way so they can find me if necessary. Blizzard heads west, intending to wind his way around and down through the valley, where Rays has his own cottage closer to the villages.

I head north, following the ledge that skirts the mountain toward its north face. I hug the tree line along the ledge that overlooks the rocky terrain of the foothills. Although it’s dark, my eyes have adjusted enough that my footfalls are sure if I stay close to the trees.

Before long, I spot a light from within a cave through the forest. It flickers low like candlelight, but it’s a beacon flashing in the dark. Rays lives in the valley; there is no reason for him to be in that cave. I feel the same glowing pulse Blizzard described when he found me. A calling, but now it carries the scent of the air after a rain.

I watch for a long time, certain that Rays is inside. I also feel a presence incongruent with the sense of light. It is crisp and sterile.

The unsettling silence of the starless night confounds any true sense of time. An age passes before a figure emerges from the cave. A tall woman with thick hair piled chaotically on her head.
